It doesn’t really matter what language you speak, there are subtitles available online for all of them and it’s fairly easy to get subtitles added to the content you’re watching in Kodi.

There are many different subtitle services to choose from, depending on which language you’re looking for, some might work better than others. You might even want to try out multiple services until you figure out which Kodi subtitle service best suits your needs.

Required: Kodi 16.1 Jarvis or Below

Step 1: Navigate to the Settings tab under the SYSTEM menu.

Step 2: Select the Video tab on the vertical menu bar.

Step 3: Choose the Subtitles tab on the vertical menu bar.

Step 4: Verify that your desired language is displayed next to the Language to download subtitles for field, by default English will display.

Step 5: Scroll down and click on the Default TV show service field.

Step 6: Click on the Get more… button.

Step 7: Click on Subscene.com or the subtitle service of your liking.

Step 8: Select the Default movie service field.

Step 9: Once again click on Subscene.com or the subtitle service you previously chose.

Step 10: You’ve now made subtitle services for both movies and television shows available within Kodi. Continue reading to find out how to use this functionality…

Step 11: Once you’re watching content that you wish to subtitle, press select to display Now playing bar and click on the first icon in the lower right corner of your screen, it is a circle with a screen inside of it.

Step 12: Click on the Download button within the Subtitles function.

Step 13: Select the subtitle you wish to use, you might sometimes have to try a few before you get the right one, but usually the closer to the top, the better.

Step 14: You’re done! Enjoy actually understanding what’s going on!

While they aren’t perfect, subtitle functionality is pretty damn close to it. There definitely shouldn’t be a problem getting English, French, or even Spanish subtitles for any movie or television show you’re watching. You should in fact be able to find subtitles for most of the world’s languages.
