If you’re tired of your children, roommate or spouse changing settings or installing all kinds of junk to Kodi, it would probably be wise to simply set the master lock. Once you’ve set a master lock in Kodi, only those with the specific passcode will be able to access the functionality which you choose to lock.
This functionality can also be used in order to prevent children from installing Kodi addons that give them access to content they shouldn’t be watching. Just make sure that the Kodi addon you don’t want them to access isn’t already enabled when they’re using the family Kodi device.
Step 1: Navigate to the Settings tab under the SYSTEM menu.
Step 2: Select the System tab on the vertical menu bar.
Step 3: Click on the Settings level field until Advanced is displayed at the bottom of the vertical menu bar.
Step 4: Choose Master Lock on the bottom of the vertical menu bar.
Step 5: Click on the Master lock code and settings function.
Step 6: Click on the Master lock field that displays Disabled by default.
Step 7: Choose Numeric password or whichever authentication method you prefer.
Step 8: Input your desired numeric password then press the Enter button.
Step 9: Confirm your desired numeric password then press the Enter button again.
Step 10: Enable your desired lock preferences, specifically set Lock settings to the All option and enable the Lock add-on manager option.
Step 11: Click on the OK button at the bottom of the window.
Step 12: That’s it, you’re done and may return to your Kodi homescreen. Continue reading to see an example of it in use…
Step 13: Try clicking on the Settings tab under the SYSTEM menu once again to test locking functionality.
Step 14: You’ll now be prompted to Enter master lock code when attempting to access Kodi functionality that you’ve locked.
Now you can stop supervising everyone’s use of your Kodi device, there’s nothing they can really do to break anything anymore. You won’t have any surprises next time you try to watch Kodi after getting home from a long day at work.
