Optimize Kodi with the Maintenance Tool
We’ve created a tool for Kodi that allows you to keep your setup constantly optimized, while giving you a wide array of functionality that’ll keep your Kodi up-to-date and running awesomely.
Just like any software-based system, Kodi might experience deteriorated performance after prolonged use. Depending on what type of device you’re using, it’s more than likely that after some time, your free space will be entirely consumed by Kodi’s cache, or the packages folder where addon updates are downloaded to before they are installed.
It’s a good idea to do this every month or two to ensure that your device has room for what it needs, and not for holding old files that it won’t be using again anyway.
Required: Addon Installer
Step 1: Navigate to the “PROGRAMS” menu.
Step 2: Launch the “Addon Installer” program add-on from the listing.
Step 3: Select the “Program Addons” category.
Step 4: Click on the “Maintenance Tool” program addon listed.
Step 5: Select the “Install Maintenance Tool” function.
Step 6: When prompted, Click on the “Install” button.
Step 7: Wait a couple of minutes for the add-on installation to complete.
Step 8: Press the “OK” button to complete the process.
Step 9: Return to the main menu, then Navigate to the “PROGRAMS” menu.
Step 10: Launch the “Maintenance Tool” program add-on from the listing.
Step 11: When prompted, Press the “Continue” button to confirm that this plugin is for advanced users only.
Step 12: Press the “OK” button to dismiss the community news updates notice.
Step 13: Choose the “General Maintenance” category to start.
Step 14: Select the “Clear Cache” function from the available options.
Step 15: Once completed, Click “OK” to dismiss the completion notification.
Step 16: Click on the “Purge Packages” function this time.
Step 17: Press the “Yes” button when prompted to delete files at this point.
Step 18: Click on the “OK” button to exit the process once completed, that’s it.
Step 19: Return to the Kodi home screen at this point, then Click on the little “Power” icon at the bottom left of the screen.
Step 20: Press the “Exit” button to close Kodi.
Congratulations! We’d recommend going through the Maintenance Tool’s vast functionality to discover what else it can do for your Kodi, but be careful because none of it is reversable and could break your setup just as quickly as it could fix it.
